Despite the established area of language assessment and testing, materials that
exclusively touch on the topic of assessment for young language learners are scarce, and
course materials that deal with assessment issues for young language learners relevant to
the Vietnamese educational context is even harder to find. Rather than stand-alone
materials, most writings on this topic come in the form of a chapter in a larger text on
assessment. Driven by practical needs, this book is conceived to equip pre- and in-service
teachers working with young learners of English with practical knowledge and skills in
language assessment. Certain parts of the book address assessment issues peculiar to the
Vietnamese educational setting, but a wider readership including those interested in
language assessment is also welcome.
