Vietnam - India relationship has had a firm foundation for ages, starting from the historical exchanges about culture, religion and trade. The relationship has been continuously improved and achieved new heights thanks to the creation and enhancing of the two great leaders President Ho Chi Minh and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and leaders of both nations through the generations. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was the first foreign state leader to visit Vietnam immediately after Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954. In February 1958, President Ho Chi Minh paid a state visit to India. Since then, both countries have maintained regular exchanges of high level visits. For the last half of the century, although the situation in Vietnam, India, the region and the world has been fluctuating and complicating with interweaving of international relations Vietnam- India relationship has still been regarded as “Cloudless blue sky”. The term which was used by Prime Minister Pham Van Dong during 1980s still maintains its value until now and has always been used by the leaders of both countries through generations as a proverb to refer to the developing relation between the two peoples. On the basis of the foundation laid by the two leaders - two towering culturalists, the relationship between Vietnam and India has witnessed a strong growth over years. The two countries established the consular relation in 1956, ambassadorial relations on 7th January 1972, strategic partnership in July 2007 and comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2016. Along with excellent political relation, cooperation in economic and commerce, security and defense, cultural exchanges between the two countries, etc are bright colors in the beautiful picture of the relationship between Vietnam and India. 2017 is a particularly important year in diplomatic relations between Vietnam and India when the two countries celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (07/01/1972 - 07/01/2017), and 10th anniversary of establishment of strategic partnership (7/2007 - 7/2017). The Information and Communications Publishing House coordinated with Center for Indian Studies under Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and Vietnam-India Friendship Association for publishing a set of books on countries and people of India with eight following books. 1. India: Country - Society - Culture. 2. Indian Economy - The evolution to self -reliance. 3. Being Indian - The trust about why the 21st century will be India’s. 4. The Argumentative Indian. 5. Vietnam India Relations in Economic, Commerce and Energy. 6. Vietnam India Cultural Relations. 7. India’s Strategic Culture - The making of National security policy. 8. Vietnam India Relations - New context and new vision. The contents of these books will bring to readers good knowledge on history, culture, economy and people of India, highlighting the India’s strategic culture in building national security policy over historical periods and the scientific contribution of Vietnamese and Indian experts on Vietnam India relations in the area of culture and economics.
